‘As well as a feeling of giving back to the school, joining the PTA has allowed me to meet other parents, learn how the school works and feel connected to what’s on.’
- Parent of first-grader
The PTA is run by parents of Ressu students who volunteer their time to support the school. A teacher representative presents the needs of Ressu staff and we work closely with the school principal.
At the start of each new school year a new PTA is formed at the Annual General Meeting from volunteers. We nominate a Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, and Communications person. It’s also important to have several other regular members. No special skills are required and it’s easy to learn as you go.
While our guidelines mean board members can’t serve for more than two consecutive years, the previous board works closely with the newly elected group, supporting them with feedback and guidance as needed.
The PTA board then meets monthly to plan events and fundraising for Ressu students. These events include Ressu Fest, a celebration for the whole school, market days and a teacher's breakfast.
All money raised is used to support activities and resources for Ressu students. We accept and review applications from teachers for funding and allocate monies in a fair way across the grades.
